Welcome to information on the Club

General Information

The Club is situated at Llyn Brenig, a premier fishing reservoir, attracting some 12,000 visitors each year. Llyn Brenig includes a nature reserve and has around 900 acres of water available for sailing. It's about 3 miles by 2 miles at a height of 1200 feet, which means good strong clean winds. More details of the lake can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Llyn_Brenig.

Information on the Club itself

Llyn Brenig Sailing Club was founded in 1976 and is located about 10 miles west of Denbigh in North Wales. The club has a purpose built, spacious clubhouse which is built on land leased from Welsh Water, who have actively supported the development of the Club. The clubhouse was extended in 2000 with generous support the Sports Council for Wales (SPORTLOT) and Conwy County Borough Council. Further details of the history of the club can be found here.

The Club enjoys spectacular scenery, and being over 1200 feet above sea level, gives excellent winds and very few days when sailing cannot take place.

Llyn Brenig

LBSC is a small friendly club with membership that caters for families and single members, and has facilities for both able bodied and disabled sailors.  The good winds and open water attract members from afar, including Cheshire, Shropshire, Wirral and mid and north Wales.

Facilities include:

· hot showers in comfortable changing rooms including facilities for disabled members;

· fully equipped galley;

· two safety boats

· training fleet of six Picos, two Optimists and two Wayfarers;

· Challenger trimarans for disabled members;

· Lifts to give access to the Clubhouse and boats on shore

· Concrete ramp for launching;

· Boat and car parks

· Pontoon

The success of the club is very much down to the initiative, energy and hard work of its members. Members are expected to contribute in what ever way they can to enable all members to enjoy the facilities. The club welcomes members from all walks of life, junior, senior and disabled.

Organised Sailing, when all facilities are available, is held every Sunday and consists of three races, but members can also use the Club at any time subject to them observing the Lake Safety Requirements. The Club hosts a variety of dinghies and catamarans including Flying Fifteens, RS400s, GP14s, Lasers, Mirrors, Wayfarers and Darts. There are also several keelboats which have moorings at the Club. If you don't have a boat of your own there are always helms looking for keen crews. Indeed crewing for an experienced helm is an excellent way to get started in this exciting sport.

The club also organises a training programme each year which is run by members who are RYA qualified instructors.

The sailing season is from the beginning of April to the end of November with a full sailing programme. In addition to holding open meetings, Regattas and the Welsh Open Challenger Championship (WOCC)  the club also has a popular winter social programme.
