Stop Press – Equipment Theft
Once again the club has been
broken into and club equipment stolen. Some time between closing-up after
sailing on Sunday 21 September 2003 and 9am on Tuesday 23 September 2003,
burglars cut the chain to the club’s 5-bar entrance gate, cut off the locking
mechanism to the orange RIB safety boat container and stole the safety boat,
trailer and the attached 30HP outboard motor. In addition a 7.5HP outboard
motor was stolen. The burglars previously broke into the right hand door of the
garage but as there wasn’t anything attractive to steal they then went for the
RIB container. No other club premises were broken into. During the preceding
few days an Ivor Williams tipping trailer was stolen from the United Utilities
Warden’s lock-up. Boat owners are requested to ensure that their boats/trailers
and other personal equipment are still intact. Please report anything missing
to Geoff Ravenscroft.
This is the second time that
we have been visited by burglars in a short time. We previously had another
boat/trailer and outboard motor stolen from the concrete garage for which we
have received compensation but this incident caused an increase in our
insurance premiums. Sadly it has to be said that there is nothing that can
prevent the organised professional criminal from taking personal belongings if they
are determined so to do. Could everyone from now be extra vigilant and report
anything suspicious to one of the committee members.
